New goodies…drool…

Announcement Soon [CR3]

 New goodies...drool...

Get ready
Things are heating up and we’re going to see an announcement soon. February 28, 2012 is still shaping up as the day of an announcement, though it could be a week later. We’ll be seeing a full frame camera announced. We’re still unsure if it’ll be a 5D Mark III or a 5D X.

The next 90 days could be pretty exciting for the Canon community. Expect a bunch of announcements. This isn’t [CR3], but it sounds like we’ll see at least 2 full frame cameras announced before NAB in April. One will probably be the 4K camera. Also expect more lens announcements.

Plans & news.

Over the coming months It will be time for me to approach the wedding fairs and start a marketing campaign to help promote the business. I am also hoping to invest in some new equipment and lenses and start working more closely with my suppliers and some top wedding venues. There is a new facebook page as the last one was kindly (not) deleted by fb for not quite complying with the rules.Ho hum.But please do keep an eye on the site as some new galleries should be added in shortly and some minor evolution the site. It is the aim that the site is uncluttered, easy to use, navigate and understand and inspiring for visitors, so your visits are greatly welcome and of course your support and any comments or feedback are always greatly appreciated.

A cute summer colour splash to the blog today!

A little practise photo-shoot in my garden after picking my little boy up from school earlier this afternoon. I am really begining to enjoy the challenge of getting my subjects into a relaxed state and to ‘play ball’ with the camera. This little oasis of summer colour is great at this time of year for photography and especially honing this Yeovil photographers skills.

Some misconceptions that surround photography & art.

I just found this great film by Stuart York that highlights the lack of knowledge surrounding where, when and what can be photographed. Having been out on street photography projects before I found it interesting that I was stopped,  sworn at and  threatened by passers-by, simply for working on a personal ‘project’.

I understand the building owners being curious as to a photographers presence, especially in light of terrorism but some, they seem unsure of the law-so just resort to making up their own! However on the flip side is a freedom of expression issue that really just boils down to common sense on both sides. Anyway-if you have 5 mins to spare click below and hope you enjoy the film as much as I do.

why does street photography make us paranoid.

Dorset wedding. Max and Rob’s pre-wedding shoot.

A stunning engagement shoot yesterday evening and, well, I have to take full credit for hanging in there for the great british weather! We were doubting a beautiful evening of golden sunshine but due in part to my tenacity, it’s exactly what we got! Max & Rob both work very hard in our glorious Dorset countryside-so where better to tell their story. Some beautiful pre-wedding shots, in preparation for their gorgeous Dorset wedding in August.

A superb couple to work with-did I mention you two were amazing? It was a very spontaneous shoot as the weather had been pretty glum all day, we all wanted sun in this shoot! but then a beautiful summer evening arrived as if by magic. This shoot was great fun and we certainly had a few laughs along the way which really helped them both relax. Rob made some friends along the way with the local badger population ; ) I loved every minute and could have carried on with the photography all night. Even Lilly the border terrier joined us at the end, well she is one of the family too! thank you both for making it so easy, a sunlit and wonderfully romantic Dorset wedding countryside photoshoot that I will never forget. I hope you enjoy these shot’s. For your Dorset Wedding Photography needs please get in touch!

Royal Wedding…

Well I have to say for one as un-patriotic as me-I really enjoyed yesterdays wedding and couldn’t get enough of it! I’ve even been watching the news today for updates. It strikes me how smoothly everything went-bar the ring being a bit disinclined to go onto Kate’s finger.Oh and Kate is now the Duchess of Cambridge-as opposed to princess William!

I am so happy the weather stayed good for them and the millions who congregated in central London yesterday, especially those who camped out overnight. The highlight for me was the fly past with them on the balcony. So are you wondering who was the photographer? well it wasnt me! it was Hugo Burnard and here is a link to his website..

http://www.hugofoto.com/

I was amazed to see no sign of a photographer as the bride arrived and stepped out of the car onto the red carpet, the only official wedding photographer I spotted was the one who dived in the front of the car to catch Kate as she got into the car-I think this was perhaps an assistant of Hugo’s, apparantly he had five in total! He seems to be an extremely discreet photographer and of course that is no bad thing-especially for a royal wedding.

My favorite photo so far? it has to be the shot of them in Charles Aston Martin-with a beautifully blurred out and neutral background-even with hundreds of thousands of people watching just behind them, not sure who took that image but will find it and post it here if I can.

Well its obvious that this wedding will shape the industry from today, fashions, styles, make-up, hair not to mention dresses! apparently the first copy is already on sale! I liked the adittion of the trees inside Westminster Abbey and the beautiful ariel shots were superb.

The media are wondering-as is the rest of the world, where are they headed for their honeymoon, so not even Kate knows where they going! good luck trying to keep that one under wraps guys!

All in all a great day to remember.

A more creative affair…

Okay…to celebrate the new blog and new website and as a special little treat to Emma and Shawn, I have posted these previously unseen images and a few creative interpretations of Emma and Shawn’s pre-shoot a couple of weeks ago. These have given me a chance to try some clever new software that mimics the characteristics of certain traditional film’s and dark room toning techniques. The great thing is I can remember using several of these film types and dark room processes regularly when I was learning photography and being able to recreate them digitally is very interesting.I would love some feedback and your thoughts, comments welcome as ever.

Somerset wedding.Emma & Shawn’s pre-wedding shoot.

The first pre-wedding shoot of the new site & blog! It was absolutely gorgeous, a beautiful day for this Somerset wedding photo shoot and a gorgeously fantastic couple, Emma and Shawn. A few nerves early on were very quickly eased away as they relaxed and I knew some magic was about to happen. We chose to meet at a cafe in Yeovil and then worked our way from the town centre to a local beauty spot (it does have them!). Wedding Photography in Yeovil Isnt something one could initially place together well , however it proved to have it’s fair share of great photogenic areas. It is this blend of more urban, gritty backdrop merging to more natural scenery that has worked very well and given this shoot a nice urban and more naturalistic variation. taking photos of me!

I just can’t believe how hard it was to take a good photo of myself today! By the time I had run a good distance away around twenty times, to be posed and ready and in time before the self timer triggered the shutter I was a bit worn out.Phew. I had to try and look natural and guess the focus, not easy! It defiantly would have been easier with a pocket wizard (for all the photographers amongst you)-they are a blinding bit of kit.

Now I know first hand how hard it can be to ‘act natural’ and to all those wedding photographers who rattle that one off-try it! not easy! it is an art! I know some couples have the opinion “we are not models” and I fully empathize with them-it can be damn-right intimidating having a large camera and lens thrust into ones face.I don’t like it, whenever I am told to ‘act natural’ I would automatically and by default pull a funny face. It must spoil so many great shots every day, all over the world. I guess that is what the the model industry is all about, good models always amaze me…how do they do it? I guess being great looking helps ( I had a job to look vaguely human).

However, It has been a good insight into working with my couples though-and what thy go through on a photo shoot of any kind, maybe I ought to do this kind of thing more often, I know for a fact it’s good to have experience of every angle with weddings, posing couples who are not models isn’t always easy and can be a bit of an art in itself, but anything I can do to help my couples get a better picture I am happy to invest time and money in.

Well I got this shot of yours truly-In the end! I actually like the post processing I applied to this image.I have already been told I look too angry or moody (I was getting a bit low on motivation and felt a bit silly, not that I am really bothered what I look like when getting a shot, funny-that’s something that’s never really bothered me).I certainly wasn’t moody though-just trying to ‘act’ for the camera.

So, after all, I don’t think I will be using this shot for the ‘About’ part of my new website and will probably stick with the hiding behind the camera shot I have used for some time now on my fb and twitter pages.Ho hum, should have just put the kettle on instead, but in hindsight it’s given me an insight into my couples and that after all can’t be bad.dab2d9f2a7e97f5acd28ae88e55d8507 taking photos of me!

So what’s your opinion? do you think I look moody, a good shot to use on my site? would it scare off visitors to my site or get them picking up the phone? be interested to hear your thoughts…
